When Mr. Coulthart joined Newsnation in November 2023, his first project was titled Unsolved: The JFK Assassination and it was specifically planned to coincide with the 60th anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s assassination.

In his thirty years as a journalist, he has worked for Australia’s leading newspaper, The Sydney Morning Herald, Australia’s premier public broadcaster, Four Corners, and the Sunday public affairs show, 60 Minutes, on Nine TV Network. Mr. Coulthart most recently worked as an investigative reporter for Spotlight, which was aired on The Seven Network, Australia’s most popular TV network. Before that, he was the lead investigative reporter for Sunday Night, a prominent news program.

Additionally, Coulthart provided coverage of the investigation into an alleged covert U.S. military operation that is thought to have been rescuing extraterrestrial intelligence spacecraft for years, as well as exclusive reporting on UFO whistleblower David Grusch. His investigative work in broadcast news has earned him the top broadcast award, a Logie, and five renowned Walkley journalism awards, including the highly sought-after Gold Walkley, the most prized honor for Australian journalism.

In addition, Mr. Coulthart is a co-author of six best-selling novels, such as The Lost Diggers, Dead Man Running, and Above the Law, which reveals how outlaw motorcycle gangs are running organized crime in Australia. The 2015 Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Australian History went to him for his biography of Charles Bean, Australia’s official historian of the First World War.
