Melendez is an Emmy award-winning sports journalist working at WISN 12 News as a Sports Director in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He began his broadcasting career at WINK-TV in Fort Myers, Florida. He worked as the weekend sports anchor and sports reporter in charge of shooting and editing daily reports for the station from 2008 to 2010. Additionally, he co-hosted a chat program on Fox Sports Radio. During his time at WINK, he covered Super Bowl XLIII and XLIV, the 2010 Pro Bowl, the 2009 BCS National Championship, the 2009 BCS Orange Bowl, and the 2009 NBA Finals.
Afterward, Melendez joined WISN 12 News in Milwaukee, working as a Sports anchor and reporter from 2010 to 2012. While there, he covered both professional and collegiate sports. His assignments included Super Bowl XLV, the 2011 and 2012 Big Ten Championships, and the 2011 and 2012 NLDS and NLCS. In February 2013, he joined ESPN as a SportsCenter anchor in Bristol, Connecticut. After two years, he was hired as a Sports anchor and reporter at New York 1 News.
In 2018, he started working for Bally Sports Wisconsin as the Brewers and Bucks’s pre-and-post-game host and reporter. He worked there for 4 years before returning to WISN 12 News in April 2022. Melendez received the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association’s 2011 Best Sportscast for Larger Market award while he was employed at WISN-TV. When he worked at WINK-TV, he was awarded the 2010 Associated Press Regional Award for Best Sports Feature, “Sleeping with Enemy”.
