He began his radio weather forecasting career at Accu-Weather in Pennsylvania in the United States and remained there as a broadcast meteorologist for four years. Conklin began his on-air career at WECT, an NBC-affiliated TV station located in Wilmington, North Carolina, in 1989.
He used to work at WECT as a meteorologist and a reporter for the climate. Conklin worked at the CBS-affiliated television station WINK-TV in Fort Myers, Florida Area, for two years. In addition, Conklin worked at WTVJ, which is located in Miami, Florida City, for one year. The meteorologist went back to the Carolinas and to WBTV in April 1993.
