Means worked as a news anchor and reporter at WAMO-FM/AM Radio from May 1996 to May 1999 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She anchored and wrote for daily morning newscasts. However, she moved to WTAE-TV as an associate producer for 3years.

Here, she co-produced weekend newscasts and was responsible for formatting and writing newscasts. Further, Alexis joined WKJG TV and WXYZ-TV as a general assignment reporter for two years and five months respectively where she produced and delivered newscasts and live field reports for the NBC affiliate.
