Ali Lanyon is an Emmy award-winning journalist working at ABC 27 as co-anchor of Daybreak news from 4:30-7 a.m. She joined the network in 2002 as a reporter. She has since covered news in every corner of Midstate. Ali also hosts “Mommy Minute,” a weekly program on Daybreak that she started in 2015, which focuses on topics that are significant to local parents. Since joining ABC27, Ali has received four regional Emmy awards. The Associated Press has also given her multiple honors.

Lanyon is an American journalist currently working at ABC 27 News as co-anchor of Daybreak news from 4:30-7 a.m. She has covered a wide range of stories throughout her career, including tornado touchdowns, murder trials, and the Dillsburg Pickle Drop on New Year’s Eve. Prior to the 2020 election, she conducted a one-on-one interview with Vice President Mike Pence. She covered multiple presidential elections, the fall of Senator Arlen Specter and Hillary Clinton’s 2008 Pennsylvania primary triumph.
Ali has traveled to tell some of her most memorable stories. She covered President Ronald Reagan’s passing from Washington, D.C., flew to New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina to follow volunteer efforts there, and reported from Shanksville, Pennsylvania on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. She has also made two trips to Hollywood to give fans an exclusive look at the making of the popular program “Dancing with the Stars. Ali loves reporting on crime and courts. having appeared twice on the Investigation Discovery channel to discuss local cases.
Ali began a regular program called “Midstate Mysteries” in 2010 that looks into unsolved cases in central Pennsylvania. The show has received two nominations for a crime reporting Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy. Ali also hosts “Mommy Minute,” a weekly program on Daybreak that she started in 2015, which focuses on topics that are significant to local parents. Additionally, she created the “What’s Going Around” segment in 2017, in order to educate parents about the ailments afflicting children around the Midstate. The segment airs on Daybreak every Thursday morning.
Achievements
Since joining ABC27, Ali has won four regional Emmys. Her initial two honors were given out for excellent reporting in the science and health sectors. She received a 2010 Emmy in the Features and Human-Interest category for Outstanding On-Camera Reporter. In 2022, she was granted the same recognition as an exceptional feature reporter. And the Associated Press has given her multiple honors.
In 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023, Harrisburg Magazine readers voted Ali as “Simply the Best” local TV personality. She was privileged to receive the 2017–2018-2021 “Simply the Best – Reader’s Choice” award for television news anchor. The Dauphin County Victim Witness Assistance Program recognized Ali as the 2009 Media Advocate of the Year. She was also honored by the U.S. Marshals Service for her efforts in bringing public awareness to Operation Safe Surrender.
