Bob has successfully presented the KDKA-TV “Extra Effort” award to many local students who excel in athletics, academics, and community service. Pompeani has visited over 1,200 local schools producing feature stories on each outstanding student. Bob’s induction into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame was in 2015.

In the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette polls of 1997, Bob was voted Pittsburgh’s favorite sportscaster. In addition, he received the Pittsburgh Beauty Academy’s Professional Image Award in 1998– in the 20 years that PBA has handed out the honor. Bob also won the 2000 Tri-State PGA of America Distinguished Service Award. This was due to his excellent contributions to local golf — getting inducted into the local Tri-State PGA Golf Hall of Fame.
Pompeani’s induction into the Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame in April of 2007 was for his many contributions to local sports. Further, in 1987, he received his first Golden Quill Award and the second one in 1988 among others. Bob received three Mid-Atlantic Emmy awards and eight AP awards for his excellent performance in play-by-play of Steeler Pre-Season games and as host of the “#1 Cochran Sports Showdown.” He was named “Father of the Year” by the National Father’s Day Council in 2011. Moreover, in 2012 he was awarded a People’s Choice Award for “Dancing With Pittsburgh Celebrities.”
The Syria Shriners of Pittsburgh awarded him with a lifetime achievement award in 2015. Bob is actively involved in various community activities. He is on the board of directors for the American Heart Association and the Give the Kids the World Foundation. Also a board member of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Partners for Quality Inc.
Bob’s presence on the Executive Committee for the Mario Lemieux Foundation since 1995 has brought about good results. He has frequently served as Master of Ceremonies for the “Penguins at your Service” annual black-tie dinner now for the past 18 years.
