Brett reports live from the scene of the state. He came to WHO 13 during its First Alert Storm Team in July 2008, after he studied at Iowa State University for four years.
Brett graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Meteorology as well as a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. While studying Meteorology, he participated in storm chasing in the state and got in-field experience with the severe weather of Central Iowa. He carried out research and wrote a thesis his senior year basing himself on the strength and impacts of atmospheric “caps” on severe thunderstorms and tornadic potential and development in Iowa. At Lowa, he interned with WHO13, with the sports team, and also with Meteorologist Jeriann Ritter, and he was later hired.
Brett also chased storms in northern Iowa. One specific time was on Sunday, May 25th, 2008, a period between graduating and first working at WHO13. He was on the trail of the storm that produced the EF-5 tornado which leveled portions of Parkersburg. He was among the first people in town after the destruction. This way, he helped in the notification of authorities on the damage and assisted in clean-up.
McIntyre believes he has terrible handwriting and can’t draw his way out of a paper bag. He has never been admitted to a hospital for he rarely falls sick and hence didn’t miss a single day of school after sixth grade. Also, he loves playing cards, as well as board games, and working on and fixing computers. In addition, he was lucky to experience a glancing blow from Category 4 Hurricane Charley during the summer of 2004 while on vacation in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Moreover, Brett spent a week during the summer while in high school hiking and climbing mountains outside of Fort Collins Colorado. However, he can’t stand “reality” television.
