He began his broadcasting career at the age of seventeen authoring baseball box scores for The Wheeling Intelligencer. After completing his studies at Virginia’s Hampden-Sydney College in 1997, he went on to work as the politics editor for West Virginia Media and the Charleston Daily Mail.
In July 2010, Stirewalt moved to FOX News Channel where he wrote and presented the Fox News Halftime Report newsletter in addition to co-hosting the podcast Perino & Stirewalt: I’ll Tell You What with Dana Perino. He was also the primary on-air analyst of polls and voting trends and host of Fox’s weekly Power Play program for the network.
Stirewalt was let go by Fox News in January 2021 and began working as a contributing editor at The Dispatch in February 2021. He was hired at News Nation as a political editor on May 24, 2022. He started anchoring The Hill Sunday, a Sunday public affairs program, on March 3, 2024.
