Hewitt is the political correspondent for ITV News based in London, UK. He has held this position since March 2019. He also hosts two of ITV’s most-watched news podcasts – the US podcast Trump Lost: What Now? and British political podcast Calling Peston. He started his journalism career at the BBC as a freelance journalist. There, as a student, he volunteered as a freelancer for BBC Radio Stoke.

In 2011, Hewitt joined ITV News Central and was named Midlands Newcomer of the Year in 2012 after a year of service before joining ITV Granada as a sports reporter. In 2013 he moved to Granada where he worked as a political correspondent. That same year, he was named North West TV’s News Anchor of the Year at the O2 Media Awards.
Hewitt then moved to Westminster and joined ITV News’ policy unit Yorkshire, Tyne-Tees and Scottish Borders, having left Granada Reports in 2016.He returned to Granada Report in 2017 but left Granada Reports again in 2018 to join ITV Network News as a political correspondent.

Hewitt has won numerous awards throughout his career, including the 2018 Royal Television Society’s North West Reporter of the Year. He was also nominated for two Royal Television Society Awards for his reporting on the murder of Khuram Shaikh and his coverage of the 2015 general election. Hewitt conducted a survey of child poverty in the north of England in 2018 and was nominated for an Orwell Prize.
