Johnson moved to the Valley of the Sun with his family in 2009, when he was working as a multimedia journalist for KPHO CBS5. He was then made a public information officer with the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office. Here, he started the department’s video unit which helped to gain the attention of the community affairs and investigations. He returned to television news KRNV News 4 in Reno, Nevada, as an evening anchor after nearly two years in police enforcement. He was awarded three Edward R. Murrow awards for his reports.
Johnson joined Local 5 as a morning anchor for Good Morning Iowa in 2016. He also worked at WOI for six and a half years, where he received four regional Emmy awards, more than twenty nominations, and two additional regional Edward R. Murrow honors.
He’s happy to be back where it all began, and before leaving home, he praises his wife for her support throughout the years. They have three children and live in the metro. If not working, you would find Johnson playing golf or hunting.
