You can watch her live newscasts at 6 p.m., 7 pm., 10 p.m., and 11 p.m. During her tenure there, she has covered blizzards, floods, high water levels, and multiple tornado outbreaks, including the Aug. 20, 2016, tornado outbreak.
For our special Weather Experience, Ellen invites hundreds of primary school students into a real TV studio every spring and fall. Through practical experiences, this interactive program teaches children about all aspects related to extreme weather. Each student gets to put their newly acquired knowledge to use on the green screen at the end of the session and experience what it’s like to be on TV!
Since joining the network, she has earned Best Weathercast and Weather Anchor in Michigan Emmys, in addition to the Michigan Association of Broadcasters’ Best Weathercast award. Passionate about severe weather and communication, she was chosen as one of the nation’s few broadcast meteorologists to take part in the National Severe Storms Laboratory Hazardous Weather Testbed research, which aims to evaluate the next generation of tornado and severe storm warnings. She is currently West Michigan’s first female chief meteorologist.
Additionally, Ellen has worked at news stations in the banks of New Bern, North Carolina, and the mountains of Helena, Montana. When she is not working, she loves to go on hikes in West Michigan and visit the best breakfast spots in the area. She and her pilot spouse Mark may be spotted during a balloon event in their community.
