She currently anchors News 8 at noon and 4 p.m. She is also a fill-in anchor for News 8 at 5 p.m. and The Seven. Linnert has been working with the network since April 2006. Previously, she worked as an event planner and fundraiser at the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Grand Rapids, MI. Before that, she was hired as a news anchor and reporter at WLNS-TV in Lansing, MI.

During her tenure at News 8, Emily has also worked as the anchor of Weekend Daybreak and Weekend Evenings, Daybreak. Emily was born in Kalamazoo, and one of her earliest memories is of the 1980 tornado that devastated her west side neighborhood.
A Portage Northern High School alumna, Emily decided to give broadcasting a shot after being invited to compete on the school’s award-winning Interscholastic Forensic public speaking and presentation team. Her curiosity brought her to Michigan State University, where she earned a degree in telecommunications. She freelanced for several MSU sports that aired on cable TV while she was in East Lansing.
Before receiving her degree, Emily began working part-time at the assignment desk at WLNS in Lansing. She subsequently became the network’s morning broadcast reporter. In December 2000, when an overnight blizzard of over fourteen inches left her coworkers trapped at home, Emily found herself on the anchor desk for the first time. She took over as morning anchor shortly after and remained there for a few years.
Emily briefly worked as a fundraiser and event coordinator for the Muscular Dystrophy Association before joining the local news scene as WOOD TV8’s 11 p.m. producer. Her dream of going back to the news but staying behind the scenes was crushed when her news director sent her back to work as a Daybreak reporter. When she’s not working, you can find her enjoying an IPA from Beer City USA, talking to and caring for her indoor and outdoor plants, or watching Michigan State University football.
