Prior to working at WHO 13, Gabe was a meteorologist, reporter, producer, and fill-in anchor at WPTA-TV in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He covered various types of weather including snowstorms, tornadoes, and Derechos. Gabe won an Emmy award in 2022 for his production, reporting, and hosting on Climate Matters. He has written stories on climate catastrophes, such as the connection between science and climate change and how people in the Midwest are affected.
Proughis a proud graduate of Ball State University. He graduated in December 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology and Climatology. Gabe was the Chief Weather Forecaster at the university, this was for Ball State’s student news organization which won several awards. He was also Executive Producer for Waking Up with Cardinal Weather which is a weather morning show.
In 2009, Gabe was awarded the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship. Every year, the prize was given to more than 100 undergraduate students across the nation. Additionally, he conducted research on ways to enhance severe weather forecasts while serving as a National Weather Service intern.

Gabe was lucky to receive the prestigious Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship in 2019. This is usually awarded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration only to less than 100 undergraduate students countrywide annually. He completed an internship with the National Weather Service as part of her fellowship, conducting research on how to enhance weather forecasting and inform the general public.
For his work as producer, reporter, and host of the special program Digging Deeper Climate Matters in 2022, he was honored with an Emmy Award. The climate problem has been thoroughly covered by Gabe, who has also discussed how the research unequivocally supports climate change and its effects on the people of 21Country.
