Gerron is an award-winning journalist working as an anchor and reporter at WISN 12 News in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Over the past ten years, Gerron has told stories throughout the Midwest and South and now he is thrilled to call Milwaukee home. Gerron began his broadcasting career in stations in Louisiana, Lake Charles, and Baton Rouge. While there, he covered everything from ice storms to hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and fires.
After that, Gerrron moved to St.Louis, Missouri where he was hired as a general assignment reporter at the Fox and CW affiliate, KTVI/KPLR. While in St. Louis, he covered the Berkeley woman Monica Sykes’s disappearance in great detail and was the first reporter to arrive when her remains were discovered; Gerron covered the 2016 Democratic presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump; he went to his hometown of Chicago to cover the Cubs’ historic 2016 World Series victory; and in 2017, he filed exclusive reports live from the scene in New Orleans when a drunk driver plowed through Mardi Gras crowds, hospitalizing a St. Louis resident.
Before joining WISN 12 News, Gerron spent four years in Baton Rouge working as a morning anchor at WVLA/WGMB. While working at the station, Gerron launched the “Candid Conversations” series, which allowed the station to report on topics that disproportionately affected communities of color, such as environmental racism and mass imprisonment. When Gerron isn’t hunting for the next amazing story to share, he’s probably figuring out where the greatest brunch or karaoke spots are. In addition to being a passionate volunteer for several community organizations, he enjoys cheering for the New Orleans Saints and considers himself the champion of trivia.
Achievements
Gerron coverage of “Cancer Alley” earned him a nomination for a 2021 regional Emmy. His work has been honored by The National Association of Black Journalists, the Louisiana Associated Press, and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences—Suncoast Region. Several prestigious honors have been given to him for his work, including breaking news first-place prizes and a story of the year award for an investigation that resulted in allegations of drunk driving against a federal judge. Additionally, he is a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
