Schanz works for WXYZ-TV as a weekend morning anchor and reporter since joining in February 2019. Before joining the station, she worked at WIVB/WNLO-TV (LIN TV Corp), Buffalo for 3 years since March 2015 as a reporter. While there, she served as both investigative and a general assignment reporter. Her attention was on news involving clergy sex abuse, opioid crisis and medical marijuana. Also, she was the reporter and anchor for KLKN-TV, Lincoln for 2 years since joining in April 2013.
In addition, she was an anchor and reporter for Good Day DePaul, Greater Chicago Area for 6 months since January 2012. She interned as a communications intern for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Greater Chicago Area for 4 months since joining in July 2011.
Also, she interned at NBS News, Greater Chicago Area as the DePaul Documentary Project intern for 8 months since joining in September 2013. She has received the Nebraska Broadcasters Association Gold Award and selected as a nominee for an Emmy award for her segment in News 4’s “Break Out.” This program covered the search of the run-away inmates David Sweat and Richard Matt from an upstate New York prison.
Also, she has received a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for her project on “Inside The Epidemic,” which entails the ongoing war on opioid abuse in western New York. Last but not least, she got first place in the documentary category and was awarded the New York Associated Press award for her “Inside the Epidemic” work. On a side note, she enjoys travelling and has toured six continents and stayed in Korea for a while after college.
