She has been a part of the 40/29 news team for about three years now. She began as an Emma Bowen Fellow and subsequently advanced to the role of newscast producer. Lakyra accepted a full-time job at 40/29 as a multi-media journalist after earning her degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
Lakyra’s love of journalism was ignited by her early interest in storytelling and reading. She is now motivated by the community members’ stories. When she was a student, Lakyra worked for UATV as a reporter, producer, and anchor. She also served as vice president of the National Association of Black Journalists’ University of Arkansas chapter.
