While pursuing his undergraduate studies at the University of Hawaii, he served on the student newspaper and campus radio station. While in the Islands, he broadcasted play-by-play of the UH Warriors, erupting volcanoes, and sumo wrestling.
Later, he migrated to Northern California where he experienced the 1989 earthquake. Beil was driving via the Caldecott Tunnel during the earthquake. He served at KTVU-TV for 5 and a half years since 1989. Further, he went on to serve ESPN, Bristol where he served as a sportscaster for 6 years.
