He debuted on The Donlon Report and NewsNation Prime for NewsNation on May 17, 2021. On July 8, 2021, Nexstar said that Vittert would be the host of a primetime program on NewsNation called On Balance with Leland Vittert, which premiered on July 19, 2021.
He started his broadcasting career as a weekend news anchor for Denver, Colorado’s KDVR-TV. After that, he was employed by Orlando, Florida’s WFTV-TV as a reporter. Additionally, he worked at WMTV-TV in Madison, Wisconsin, KNWA-TV in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and KATV-TV in Little Rock, Arkansas. Vittert started following the Arab Spring as soon as he arrived in the Middle East in 2010. When Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down in 2011, he was among the few reporters present live in Tahrir Square, Cairo.
After that, Vittert went to Libya in the early stages of the revolution there, reporting first from the besieged city of Misurata and then on Muammar Gadaffi’s counterattack. Vittert reported on the 2012 conflict between Israel and Hamas, known as Operation Pillar of Cloud. He has interviewed the brother of Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri, Muhammad al-Zawahiri.
Vittert spent a month in Eastern Ukraine while the region was being overrun by militias backed by Russia before moving to work for FOX News in Washington, D.C. in 2014. While there, Vittert and his team were attacked by demonstrators while reporting the George Floyd demonstrations outside the White House. They were subsequently driven from the scene. The next day, during an interview on Cavuto Live, Vittert claimed that a protester had attacked him and his team because they were Fox News employees. In January 2021, Vittert made his final appearance on Fox News, after which he joined NewsNation in New York City in 2021.
