You can watch her provide live newscasts morning on WISN 12 News from 4:30 to 7 a.m. and on 12 News at 11 a.m., Monday through Friday. Slater began her meteorological career in 2006 when she interned at WISN 12 under Chief Meteorologist Mark Baden. She also interned at WKOW in Madison along with working for the National Weather Service in Sullivan.

Slater and her spouse relocated to Mississippi in 2009, when she started working mornings at Fox affiliate WDBD-TV. She covered the significant floods along the Mississippi River, the unprecedented tornado outbreak of April 27, 2011, and even a blizzard (about 4 inches for Jackson) while she was there.

They left for Springfield, Missouri in 2012, a year after an EF-5 tornado destroyed Joplin. She covered everything, even snow and ice, and strong storms. Eventually, she made her way back to Milwaukee in 2016—and coincidentally, to WISN 12 News. Slater possesses the National Weather Association TV Weathercaster Seal of Approval #1604075 and is a member of the American Meteorological Society.

Slater likes to spend her free time with her husband Mark watching movies and trying out new restaurants. She works out frequently, lifting weights in the gym, baking sweets with her mother, and volunteering to foster cats and kittens for the Wisconsin Humane Society. She adopted two of her three cats—known as foster failures—in this manner. Ripley and Flynn are WHS alumni, while Maverick is from the Mississippi Animal Rescue League.
