Marius Payton sickness

Payton and his wife Susan observed dieting for three months to ensure healthy living. Thereafter, they wanted to see the effects the diets were having on their heart health. They both visited Saint Francis Hospital for a free cardiac age screening that would provide the insight they were seeking.

“The truth is, we compete,” “So, I was fired up for believing my heart age is lower than my wife’s,” explained Marius. Heart age is the age of your heart and blood vessels in consideration of risk factors like heart attack and stroke. This is assessed on an individual’s body mass index, cholesterol level, glucose level, and blood pressure. The hope is that the heart age is equal to or less than a person’s chronological age.

Marius’ cholesterol was in the normal range for the first time in nine years but his blood pressure was 200/100 and which was extremely high. Considering this was double a normal reading. Therefore, his result, 47-year-old Marius Payton, unfortunately, had a 67-year-old heart. “I was scared,” his wife said but Payton wasn’t since he had been cycling 20 miles a day, eating healthy becoming a vegetarian, and could only figure The blood pressure machine was broken.

However,  headaches became part of him the following day at work, and although he could read he couldn’t pronounce words on the teleprompter like “Women.” “Custody.” “President.” By that time, Payton was a weekend news anchor for Fox 13 in Memphis. Therefore, rewriting the scripts whereby “President” became “Mr. Obama.” Thereafter, his headache returned, and had to call his wife from work one of their nurse friends told them to a grocery store pharmacy for a  blood pressure checkup. However, the reading was 200/100 again and this hit Playton something was wrong.

Marius Payton Diagnosis

Platon’s physician asked how Payton’s father died while taking his medical history, and that question, and the answer, is what saved Payton’s life. His dad died from a fatal brain hemorrhage. Therefore, Marius was sent for a brain scan and after a day he got news from his online patient portal: “needs to see a neurosurgeon right away.” His wife sent the images to a brain surgeon in the family and the result shocked her saying.

“Whoever’s scan this is is dead,”.The scan indicated a 70 percent blockage in an artery leading to the brain and very little blood getting to half of Payton’s brain. “Our level of fear became,” 10 out of 10,” Payton said Marius and his wife Susan discovered one of the world’s leading vascular neurologists in Memphis. This was   Dr. Andrei Alexandrov who worked with his wife, Anne Alexandrov, a nurse practitioner and also a blood flow expert.

Anne Alexandrov saw the scan during their first appointment and stopped speaking in mid-sentence. Then told Payton’s wife, “Oh my gosh, I don’t know how he’s standing here right now”.”I literally was aghast,” she said. “Paralysis of the right side of the body and an inability to speak or write, that’s what you’d kind of expect to see with this imaging. I was kind of shocked that he was upright, talking and he looked totally normal.” Therefore, this meant they had to act very fast to prevent a stroke or a heart attack and promptly started using medications to lower blood pressure.

Marius Payton new blood vessels into his brain

Payton’s mind was filled with what-ifs that started popping up, What if he died? What if this was it?  how you’re he was going to die.”I don’t want to die at work or die driving my car and hurt someone else. I  did not want to die period.” Marius said.

Alexandrov’s finally suggested doing an experimental procedure that would enhance blood flow around the artery blockage and into his brain. It took him months before he got accepted into a program, months of taking powerful meds that made him drowsy, and months of wondering each time he had a headache if he was going to die that day.

In 2017 The treatments started and techs gave Payton external counterpulsation, which gently and firmly compresses blood vessels in the legs to propel blood backward, increasing blood flow to the heart and brain. This was an hour a day every weekday for 35 days. This treatment only had been used to create improved blood flow within the heart, but Alexandrov’s once used it to help create better flow in the brain for another patient since they were totally out of options.

Marius Payton Recovery

Positive results were quickly achieved in a few days and hence Payton stopped having issues pronouncing certain words and headaches subsided. Consecutive scans showed blood flowing throughout his brain.”I slowly saw him turning back into the man I knew prior to all this,” Susan Payton said. Therefore, he returned to the gym almost every day and spends a lot of time playing with his daughter, goofing around with puppies, and prioritizing his family. And knowing it was his dad, who, though indirectly, saved him, he is looking for all ways to forgive his dad.

“Dad saved my life. This might sound strange since he’s been dead for quite a while. I’m still working on that relationship. Ya know?” he said.“I want to get some closure, so I can be at peace. I have to find a way to work on those things to figure out he was the best father he could be.”
