Standridge worked with 5NEWS meteorologist Garrett Lewis during Lewis’ 20 years of service. Lewis was like a role model to him where he set high standards, especially during severe weather. With his lead, Matt can protect the people of Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Matt worked as a government aviation radar meteorologist in North Dakota and post-graduated from Valparaiso University with a degree in atmospheric science. After this, he started full-time broadcasting at 5NEWS in 2017 as a weekend meteorologist and later a weekday morning meteorologist.
Standridge went to TEGNA sister station WKYC-TV in Cleveland, Ohio in 2020. He provided forecasts and brought the “Adventure Arkansas” with a new series called “Go Ohio.” He and his wife love exploring the shores of Lake Erie though they miss home.
Matt grew up experiencing several climates in Oklahoma, New York, and Indiana. In his career, he has tracked tornadoes, and the previous chief Garrett Lewis gave him a deep knowledge of forecasting. He has given guidance to government aircraft around severe hail storms, and accurately forecast several feet of lake-effect snow. Matt is ready to be back home in Arkansas and forecast the weather where we live.
