For their coverage of a protest against then-President Donald Trump in downtown Milwaukee in 2017, he and his team were honored with a Society of Professional Journalists Award. When Phil started to broaden the opportunities for students to flourish in broadcast television during his junior year, he was elevated to general manager.
Phil comes to WOOD TV8 from CBS 42 in Birmingham, Alabama, where he worked as a digital anchor and content producer. While in Birmingham, he assisted in the founding of CBS 42 Now, which covered a wide range of topics including election results, crime investigations, and the unexpectedly cold weather. Over the course of his career, Phil has moved around the nation, working in Chicago, Memphis, Milwaukee, Birmingham, and now Grand Rapids.
