Sara is an American journalist working at WOOD TV8 as a Meteorologist based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Originally from Darien, Illinois, she attended Iowa State University. She served as the American Meteorological Society Student Chapter President at Iowa State during her final year of study. Sara worked at a nearby Girl Scout summer camp called Camp Greene Wood in addition to interning at KCCI-TV in Des Moines and WGN-TV in Chicago during the summers.
She began her broadcasting career at KGAN, the local CBS affiliate in eastern Iowa. She spent two years there before joining the Storm Team 8 in June 2022. During her tenure at KGAN, Sara reported on two derechos, blizzards, and a record-breaking tornado outbreak in December.
Sara won an Upper Midwest Emmy Award in 2021 for her breaking news reportage on the August 2020 derecho. Her team’s work, “Iowa Derecho: In Their Own Words,” won an Edward R. Murrow Award in the News Documentary category a few months later. Sara likes to go on runs and explore new local restaurants when she’s not working at the station.
