Dempsey is an American journalist working at Newsnation as a White House correspondent based in Washington DC. He served as an intern at WTVJ/NBC6 News in Miami Florida. He also interned as a producer at WPBT2 in Miami. In August 2010, Tom officially began his broadcasting career at WHSV – TV in Harrisonburg, Virginia. There, he reported, produced, and served as an anchor for “WHSV News at Noon.” Along with hosting and reporting for “WHSV Endzone,” a local high school football program.
After that Tom joined KSHB 41 News channel as an anchor and reporter based in Kansas City, Missouri. During his time there, Tom oversaw political coverage as a chief reporter during the trial of Governor Eric Greitens and the Iowa Caucuses. He also served as the main fill-in anchor for the weekend newscasts and conversed with viewers on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media platforms.
Tom was then hired at WUSA-TV as a freelance reporter in Washington, DC., where he covered the effects of the coronavirus in the vicinity of the viewing area and served as a correspondent for George Floyd protests and civil rights demonstrations. It was determined after a few weeks and numerous tests that he had testicular cancer in the year 2019 when he was only 31years old. Though extremely treatable, testicular cancer is thought to be uncommon. Tom had surgery to remove his testicle and implant a prosthetic in its place. Now, in an attempt to save lives, he is using his voice to inform other men about it.
