Troy joined Denver7 in July 2016 as its Broncos insider and sportscaster. He is in charge of the NFL coverage for the station and the Denver7 Sunday Sports shows. Troy worked at the Denver Post from 2002 to 2016 prior to deciding to switch careers to television.
In 2005, he became the National Major League Baseball reporter in addition to his role as the Rockies’ beat writer. In 2014, he joined The Post’s Broncos beat and became the team’s lead reporter during the Super Bowl in 2015. In the Associated Press Sports Editors 2016 competition, Troy received the 2016 Top Breaking News award in the 175,000 or more circulation category.
Since graduating with honors from the University of Colorado journalism school in 1993, Troy has been the president of the local chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America. Additionally, he has been the recipient of more than 25 writing awards, both local and national.
After reporting on CU athletics for the Colorado Daily for three years, he worked as the sports editor for one year in Lake Havasu City for Today’s Daily News. From 1994 to 1996, he worked for The Yuma Daily Sun for two years.
He then went back to Colorado to work as a columnist and reporter at The Daily Times-Call in Longmont. There, from 1996 to 2000, he covered the Rockies and Broncos. Before joining MLB.com as the Rockies’ beat reporter for one season in 2001, Troy worked as a national NFL columnist for Broadband Sports for seven months.
