After graduating with honors, Catherwood joined Ulster Television in 1990 where she worked as a news and drama reporter. In 1993, she joined NBC Asia in Hong Kong as a reporter, covering the Hong Kong handover to China and the 1997 stock market turmoil. She traveled widely in Asia, interviewing opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi in Burma. Andrea teamed up with ITN in April 1998 and began as a news anchor and senior reporter for ITV News, presenting ITV Morning News and providing features for News at Ten. She then became a medical correspondent for ITV News. After joining Five News in 2000 as Senior News Presenter, she returned to ITV in 2001.

In 2003 she was promoted to lead presenter of ITV Weekend News and assistant presenter of ITV Lunchtime News and ITV Evening News. Andrea left ITV News in September 2006 to run The Sunday Edition, ITV’s new political program with Andrew Rawnsley. 2006 she was scheduled to appear in the celebrity special The X Factor: Battle of the Stars, singing with James Hewitt, but ITV management refused her permission to appear on the show. 2007 he took part in the ITV series Vernon Kay game show marathon.

In October 2009, Andrea started working at Bloomberg Television as part of the news channel’s reboot, where she presented Briefing, The Pulse and Last Word. She left the company in March 2012. Catherwood now writes weekly for This Morning on ITV and also writes for The Mail on Sunday.

She has been a presenter on various Radio 4 programs for the past three years. She has presented BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour and You and Yours and is a regular presenter on Radio 4’s Media Show. In September 2017 she appeared on BBC Radio 4 Great Lives and nominated Constance Markiewicz for a wonderful life. As of December 2020, she continues to occasionally host the Woman’s Hour; however, his future participation was uncertain. In October 2022, Andrea started presenting commentary on BBC Radio 4; The program holds the BBC accountable and allows radio listeners to voice their views
