Art started his broadcasting career in radio at WDZZ-FM 93 in Flint, MI as an announcer, production manager, sports anchor, and news anchor. However, he left to join WILX-TV (NBC) team in Lansing, MI. At WILX where he was the first African-American male to anchor a regularly broadcast newscast in Lansing. Besides, he also was the station’s Capital Reporter and Business Reporter. Besides, he was sent on overseas assignments covering the conflict in the Persian Gulf including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Italy among others.
Further, he joined the NBC station in Norfolk, VA WAVY-TV10 as the station’s military affairs correspondent. Here, he anchored the station’s public service program called the Bottom Line as well as a fill-in anchor. In addition, Art worked at WOWI Radio as News Director and anchored a two-hour live radio talk show. However, he left Birmingham in 2003 and wrote a book called, Give It All You Got, a motivational book for young men.
Further, he joined WXIA 11Alive News the NBC affiliate, and later WAGA-TV FOX 5. Also, he later started a Public Relations firm. However, he went back to Birmingham to launch the CBS 42 Morning News with Art Franklin and served as managing editor. Art anchors the 4, 5, 6, and 10 PM newscasts.
