Kast works for WXYZ-TV as a general assignment reporter as of 2022. Prior to joining WXYZ-TV, he worked for WXIN-TV Fox 59, Indianapolis as a reporter. Also, he served as a reporter for 7&4 News, Traverse City since joining in August 2016 for 2 years and a month. In August 2014, he joined HOMTV 2, Okemos, and served as its reporter for 2 years and a month. Fourth, he worked for WDIV, Detroit as a sports intern for 4 months having joined in May 2015.
In addition, he was an intern for Quicken Loans, Detroit for 4 months since May 2014. Furthermore, He had previously worked for Quicken Loans in May 2013 and left in August 2013. Last but not least, he served Impact WDBM 89FM Sports, East Lansing as a reporter and co-host since January 2014 for 8 months. Kast won an Emmy for broadcasting the story of 18 veterans who had been buried by strangers. The strangers took it upon themselves to bury the veterans because their families could not be found. He broadcasted this story in Indianapolis. Also, he covered the Black Lives Matter(BLM) protests after the gruesome death of George Floyd for the station.
In addition, he is the co-founder and board member of The Jenna Kast Believe in Miracles Foundation, Metro Detroit which is a wish-according institution for children with serious illnesses. It is named after his late sister, Jenna who died from brain cancer. Further, the institution began in 2005 it has acquired over $1 million and has aided over 300 Michigan families and their children.
On a side note, Kast is a massive Spartan sports fan and supports all the Detroit pro sports teams. When he’s not reporting he enjoys running a nearby trail or checking out a local distiller. Also, he likes to run off Up North, on snowmobile trails in the winter, and drop by the lake in the summer.
