In 2003, she received Emmy awards for anchoring the Breaking News Story, “New York City Blackout,” and the vivid single newscast, “CBS2 News at 11: City Hall Shooting.” Also, she gained a 1996 Emmy for anchoring the vivid single newscast, “New York City Subway Firebombing.” Further, she has received many Emmy nominations in her career. For instance, for outstanding hard news single story, “Spider-Man’s Fall.”
Second, for an outstanding health program feature, “Amy’s Story” in 2014. In 1994, she was selected for Outstanding Single Hard News Story: “Mole People,” and for serving as an anchor for WCBS-TV’s outstanding broadcast of an Instant Breaking News Story, “1993 World Trade Center Bombing.” In 1991, she won an Emmy nod for her live reporting for Outstanding News Special “Heroes on Parade.”
The New York Association of Black Journalists honored her in 2014 with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Moreover, she was a 2011 honoree at the Friars Club “Salute to News Veterans.” In 2007, McDonald’s dubbed her in its salute to “Black Broadcast Legends.” Furthermore, in 2006, she gained a New York Association of Black Journalists Award for her report on Broadway’s “The Color Purple.”
Over the decades, Tyler has done numerous stories about the arts in the Tri-State region. For instance, ample reporting on the Broadway industry, and serving as a host of the yearly broadcast, “CBS2 at the Tonys.” In addition, she is involved in station-sponsored community partnerships. Prior to WCBS-TV, she served WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio as a reporter and anchor for nine years. On a side note, she wishes she could have had the opportunity to interview, Ralph Waldo Tyler, the only accredited Black foreign correspondent reporting on African American service members in France during World War I.
