Five years after starting radio she switched to television, joining ITV Meridian in 1996 as a sports reporter/anchor on the late-night news program Meridian Tonight at Newbury Studios, Berks, and as a presenter on the A406 sports program. Barr joined the London News Network in 1999, covering sporting events and also presenting LWT’s Goals Extra. Barr joined ITV News in 2001 as its first sports correspondent. His first big job was covering the Wimbledon tennis tournament. During his time at ITV News, his role expanded to include news anchors on ITV Weekend News, ITV Lunchtime News, and ITV Evening News. In August 2004, Barr reported live from Athens on the Olympic Games.
Until January 2006 she combined her role as a sports presenter on ITV News at 10.30 am with anchor duties on the now defunct ITV weekday news channel with Steve Scott.
