Hosea Sanders Cancer/ Diabetes/ Racism/ Drug Use/ Addiction
Sanders first commented on his diagnosis of cancer in February 2017. In the wake of this, he went off-screen to undergo surgery to treat the ailment which he described as “advanced and aggressive.” “There were some complications, but I’m glad to be back here,” Unfortunately, on the 11th of September 2017 he announced on his Instagram platform that the disease has resurfaced after getting his regular check.
“A few weeks ago I learned the prostate cancer has returned. A routine check discovered new cells in my abdominal wall. Cancer has also now invaded my bones, including my rib cage and spine. I’ve been scoped and scanned and I’m scheduled for even more tests before we can develop an intensive treatment plan. No radiation anticipated right now. That didn’t completely wipe it out. The medical team is back in formation and we’ve added a few new members. All are optimistic about possible pharmaceutical options. So, it’s back to Northwestern again…a lot. I feel fine. Just tired. Actually I’m exhausted.” He posted on his Instagram,
“..I got dizzy and lightheaded while in the doctors office and was sent to Immediate Care then the ER. After a battery of tests, the diagnosis: I now have Type 2 diabetes! Crazy numbers! Another challenge…” he posted on his Instagram account.
Sanders left KCBS Channel 2 where he served as a weekend anchor since 1986 subsequent to allegations by employees and community leaders that KCBS has victimization against minorities and women in the newsroom. When he was asked about his relationship with management he said“Generally, people who are satisfied with their jobs don’t entertain other offers.” as per The Los Angeles Times.
Los Angeles Urban League President, John Mack commented on his departure: “This is a great opportunity for him. But it is also an indictment of KCBS and other network-owned stations in this city that they have failed to hire a black male anchor on a regular basis. It makes the point that racism is alive and well in too many newsrooms. The ‘good old white boys’ running the newsrooms just aren’t willing to be fair and just in this regard.” as per the Los Angeles Times.
Hosea Sanders Drug Use/ Addiction
In 2004, ABC 7 Chicago was blackmailed by two men, Joseph Cantrell of Harvey, and James Brown of the 4900 block of West Congress Parkway, who were aged 25 and 22 respectively at the time. The two demanded $5,000 to be delivered on Tuesday evening in the 4700 block of West Harrison Street for their silence.
As per the police spokesman David Bayless, they made a fake drop as demanded and immediately arrested them. Further, the charge was a Class 3 felony. Judge Colleen Hyland, set their bail for Cantrell at $60,000 and for Brown at $40,000. Also, Brown pleaded guilty to a charge of trading heroin in August 2002, as per the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.
“Following a series of family tragedies and personal problems, I sought relief in what I now know was a self-destructive situation. “Unfortunately, my judgment became clouded by substance abuse. I trusted the wrong people, people I thought were my friends, and I was betrayed and hurt by them.” Sanders commented as per the Chicago Tribune.
