To boot, she served as a co-host on the Chicago Air & Water Show and All-Star Shootout Golf Show on ABC 7. From 1993 to 2002, she served as a fill-in on ABC’s Good Morning America for weather anchors Spencer Christian and Tony Perkins.

Prior to serving WLS, she served in Richmond, Virginia at WRIC-TV as a morning and noon weather anchor for a year in 1992. Additionally, she served in Youngstown, Ohio from 1988 to 1991 at WFMJ-TV as a chief weather anchor.

Additionally, in 2013 she in the company of co-director, Scott Woodruff launched a golf outing entitled The Duke Classic, in honor of the memory of long-time ABC 7 cameraman, Michael Dukewich who passed away in 2012. As a result of the outing, about $100,000  was raised to profit the Greater Chicago Food Depository & the Wounded Warrior Project.

In addition, she advances the talent of children via her Weather Sketcher’s Club. The club endorses children to send their weather-related drawings for latent telecasting on ABC 7 News This Morning. Butler really enjoys seeing the way children express their creativity via pencils, crayons, paints, and markers. Butler was off her usual broadcasting due to her discovery of having breast cancer via her annual mammogram screening. On the 14th of December 2018, at 3 p.m. she got a call from her doctor informing her that they saw something further screening, and later it was confirmed it was breast cancer. As of 2022, she is “cancer-free.”

[“We have a million excuses,” Butler said, admitting she had put off mammograms for three years prior to 2018. “I have two girls. I’m really busy. I’ve got a lot of stuff at work going on. The thing is I assumed since I didn’t have a family history of cancer — MS runs in my family, heart disease runs in my family — never in a million years did I dream it would be cancer.” 

I kid you not, last year in early December, I said this is my Christmas gift to myself. I’m going to get a mammogram,” Butler said. “And I firmly believe that God was there telling me this is your Christmas gift to yourself. Because why then? For two years, the doctor said that same thing to me, and I still didn’t go — because again I was too busy. I seriously think God gave me a little push.”

“I got this call,” Butler said. “I was by myself at home. [The doctor] said, ‘I’m sorry to tell you, this is cancer.’ ] as per the Chicago Sun-Times.
