Nelson works for WJCL as the Chief Meteorologist for the StormTracker 22 Weather Team. He joined the ABC 22 team in January 2022. Prior to this, he served in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Hearst-owned WISN, the ABC affiliate. Further, he has forecasted and broadcasted drastic weather for more than 20 years. Additionally, he serves as a member of the American Meteorological Society.
Moreover, he served on the AMS Broadcast Board for 3 years. Furthermore, he attained the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist distinction and the AMS Broadcast Seal. In addition to that, he provided coverage for many major big weather stories at WJCL 22. For instance, Hurricane Matthew, Tropical Storm Irma, Hurricane Dorian, and the January 3, 2018 winter storm.
On top of that, he enjoys long-range weather forecasting and uses forecast methods found only on WJCL 22. Annually on March 1st, he issues the WJCL 22 long-range forecast for the oncoming hurricane season. To boot, he enjoys sharing his passion for and knowledge about the weather with local schools and organizations.
Prior to Milwaukee, he served the NBC affiliate in Kansas City, KSHB as a weekend meteorologist. Also, he served in Madison, Wisconsin at WMSN as the chief meteorologist. When he is not working, he loves s spending time with family, attending his kids’ swim meets, and fishing. Else, he enjoys trying out as many local restaurants as possible.
