Jim Rose is an American of African descent journalist who is working for WLS-TV as the sports director and anchors the station’s 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts. Also, he serves as a contributor to the station’s Emmy-awarded series program “Our Chicago” previously dubbed “HEART & SOUL.” The program is a series of specials that commemorates the ample culture of the African American community in Chicago. Even so, his career in sports broadcasting debuted when he served in the U.S. Army as a sports director for AFN-TV in Berlin, West Germany from 1973 to 1975. Moreover, he is the vice president of the Swan Group which is a non-profit group that was generated to give away the “Swan House” to a Chicago region single mother who gained academic prowess in college.
After 4 and a half years of sweat equity, in the company of a spurt of community donations, his hard work came to a realization. Additionally, in October 2006, he gave the keys to a 2,000 sq. ft. house to a single mother with two children and a 3.8-grade average.
Apart from the numerous honors he has gained in his career, he regards this as “one of his life’s crowning achievements.” In addition, Rose volunteers his time to aid numerous charitable groups and worthy causes in the Chicagoland region.
