Joan Aguon Mom

She is my best friend, my biggest and toughest critic, and my number one fan. Meet my mother, Josephine Muna Aguon – she is what I aspire to be: a kind-hearted, devoted, loving, and patient soul.

For the past 35 years, she has been the one true north whenever I tend to lose my way in this crazy adventure we call life.

Like most kids growing up, I made my fair share of mistakes and while it hurt to know I disappointed my mom, she never turned her back on me instead she offered some words of encouragement, a great big hug, and a reassuring smile. A smile that said- everything was going to be alright.

She has always been the shoulder to cry on, the heart-to-heart talk, the shopping partner, the laughter, and the listening ear I’ve needed throughout my years.

I think back to when I was in elementary school back in Sacramento, California. How she took care of my brother and I while my dad was away on TDY, which was often. How she tended to our every need when someone in the household got sick and how she ran a tight ship and made sure it was kept afloat.

In moments when she is not looking, I stare with adoring eyes at how my mom and dad interact – the love they hold, the bond they have, and the laughs they share. I speak for my dad and brother when I say – we would not be what we are if it weren’t for my mother.

Although we have our moments where we don’t see eye-to-eye, we manage to come out of it stronger and closer.

Call it a mother’s intuition. My mom always knew when something was on my mind or bothering me. And whether it was a trip to the mall or talk over a King’s crepe, she knew exactly what to say to make me feel better. Mother truly knows best. I love you, Mom! Joan stated while wishing her mom Happy Mother’s Day
