Nonetheless, his TV career debuted when he served as an actor on ABC’s “All My Children.” Through that experience, he developed comfort in front of the camera which assisted him to perform extraordinarily in both local and national broadcasting. After transitioning careers, his first newsroom employment was when he served at WVIR in Charlottesville, Virginia.
While there, he was employed as a cameraman but after three months on the job, he got the opportunity to report on-screen thus solidifying his new career path. Soon, his tasks included full-time reporting and anchoring the weekend weathercasts. During his stint in Charlottesville, he provided coverage for stories associated with the Thomas Jefferson/Sally Hemings dispute and the famed baby switch at the University of Virginia hospital.
Also, he reported broadly on the rising political career of Emily Couric prior to her unfortunate death in October 2001. Later, he went on to serve in Miami where he was promoted to serve as a full-time weather anchor. In 2005, he became one of Miami’s most known on-air personalities and navigated the region through the most active hurricane season in history.
For five years, he served closely with Max Mayfield at the National Hurricane Center. Additionally, he joined the “Hurricane Hunters” and collected data on a Category 5 hurricane as it flew through the eye of “Isabel” off the coast of North Carolina. On a side note, Quinn serves as a private pilot and holds a meteorology certification from the FAA.
