While there, she helped to create the first journalism school in the SUNY system. Marcy also created the broadcast journalism program and oversaw curriculum development, faculty recruitment, fundraising, strategic planning, student recruitment, and retention. This also helped in preparing her career and taking initiative in job placement.
Marcy had also served at CBS News which spanned over thirty years. She worked at CBS News’ worldwide newsgathering operation, hard news broadcasts, special events coverage, and breaking news. McGinnins also helped in the operation and staffing of all domestic and overseas bureaus. She was present at the helm during the coverage of 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina. She was also among the chief architects of CBS News coverage of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and had won many awards.
