Serrano started her journalism journey as a constituent service intern for the Office of US Senator Marco Rubio in Orlando, Florida, the United States of America in 2016 participating and addressing constituent concerns. Then, she interned at WGEN-TV in Miami, Florida, the United States under news and updates for 4 months. She also served as a news intern at WSVN Channel 7 assisting in photography and desk assignment duties. Next, she got a job at PantherNOW as a news staff writer.
After 11 months, Maria became a media programming intern at HBO Latin America evaluating content and utilizing the FTP. Onwards, she got hired at Solutions Journalism Network in New York, USA as a student reporter for about 4 months. She also worked as a student reporter at the New York Times in 2019 for 1 month. Later, she found a television news reporter position at Sinclair Broadcast Group in Amarillo, Texas.
Additionally, Serrano received certification for behavioral human research from the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative and a publication from the West Campus IDH Program.
