She then served as an intern for CBS 6 in Richmond, Virginia, working at the Assignment Desk, going on field assignments, and writing and editing on-air items.

After that, Markie was hired as a Press Advance Staffer by Romney who was running for presidency at the time. She spent six months traveling over the campaign trail, mostly assisting Romney with media logistics.
