Maurielle Lue Career
Lue is an American journalist working as a reporter, General assignment reporter, and co-host of the Nine for WJBK/Fox 2 News in Detroit, Michigan. She knew she wanted to work in the News industry as early as elementary school. Every night when she and her family watched the news, she would think to herself, “That’s going to be me someday!!” As soon as she could speak, her parents submitted her to every school and church oratory competition.
She began her journalism career, long before graduating from high school. At the age of fifteen, she secured her first on-air position as an anchor and reporter for “Brookwood Upclose,” a syndicated program that highlighted local happenings and issues affecting Atlanta’s youngsters. Lue’s documentary on a local shelter for troubled youth earned her her first international journalism award when she was sixteen years old.
After graduating, Lue received her first real TV employment at the NBC station WVVA in the West Virginia hills. She did everything in West Virginia. Lue created, anchored, and reported for her own broadcast on weekends in addition to reporting during the week. During her tenure there, she interviewed several notable icons, including Dr. Phil and Homer Hickam, former NASA engineer and inspiration for the 1999 film, “October Sky.” She also reported shoulder-to-shoulder among the nation’s best during the Virginia Tech massacre, delivering live reports for MSNBC and local station WVVA.
Maurielle Lue WEWS
Lue came to Detroit from WEWS, the ABC affiliate in Cleveland, Ohio. She worked as a morning anchor, traffic reporter, breaking news reporter, and general assignment reporter at WEWS. While in Cleveland she got the opportunity to work on some genuinely remarkable stories. She spent many days and nights reporting on happenings on Imperial Avenue, where the “Cleveland Strangler,” a man convicted of killing over a dozen women and hiding their bodies in his home, lived.
Lue was also in Cleveland when LeBron James departed. When the king brought his talents to South Beach, she covered it for ESPN, watching as the Clevelanders burnt their No. 23 jerseys and dragged them behind their cars. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Lue is happy to be in Detroit and wants to share stories that, even if only briefly, help viewers laugh, smile, and perhaps even forget about difficult situations.
