Who is Micah Materre?

Micah Materre is an American journalist of African descent who is working for WGN-TV as an anchor of the WGN Evening News at Five and Six and the WGN News at Nine and Ten since 2009. Prior to anchoring WGN News at Nine in 2009, she served as a co-anchor of WGN Midday News from January 2003 to October 2009. She joined the station in January 1998. Upon joining the station, she initially served as a co-anchor of WGN Morning News and as a medical reporter. Further, she has served the station for more than 2 decades.

Further, he was drafted into the army in 1952, he was honorably discharged in 1954. Moreover, he gained the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars. For his education, he attended Englewood High School and attended Chicago Teacher’s College.

Francis along with his siblings opened The Materre Bros. Paint & Wallpaper Co., which operated from 1954 to 1983. Additionally, the siblings generated a Little League baseball club, the Materre Brothers Blue Jays. And, sponsored a black ski club, the Ski Twisters, and founded a youth golf club, First Tee. In addition, The golf club was registered with the national Professional Golfers’ Association and was active for over 50 years.

Ultimately, Francis left the family business and opened his own paint store. In the late 1960s, he left the business for a job with Metropolitan Life Insurance. Later, he debuted his own firm from his home. The firm later expanded to three locations before his retirement in 1988.

During his retirement, he indulged his love of jazz, golf, and traveling and spent winters at his Vegas home. Unfortunately, he passed away on April 13th, 2018 at the age of 91. Her mom is named Vera Jeanne Bradley. Else, she served as a school administrator. The couple exchanged vows in 1960. Further, they were married for over 5 decades.

During her quarter-century with the station, she has anchored all of the newscasts at WGN and broadcasted entertainment news and special assignment stories. For instance, she reported the memorable inauguration of America’s first black President. Additionally, she serves as a reporter and co-producer of the “Chicago’s Very Own” bi-weekly beat for WGN News.

Also, she serves as a host of WGN’s public affairs show, “People to People.” In addition, she served in Detroit at WJBK-TV as the main anchor and general assignment reporter. While in Detroit, her work accumulated many awards and accolades. For instance, the Michigan Association of Broadcasters awarded her an Emmy award.

Before that, she served in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at KCRG-TV9 as a general assignment reporter and a weekend anchor. Nonetheless, her broadcasting career debuted in 1983 when she served the NPR affiliate, WBEZ radio in Chicago. For four years, she served as the station’s producer and reporter. Furthermore, she served as an educator when she served at Columbia College as a radio production teacher.

Else, she has over 3 decades experience of serving as a broadcaster and a journalist. In 2014, she gained a Chicago/Midwest Emmy. And, Barnes and Thornburg LLP honored her as a diversity trailblazer. Over the years, she has been featured in multiple national and local publications.
