Ross started his career as a weekend meteorologist at WLFI in West Lafayette, Indiana in 2005. Later he shifted to a Morning Meteorologist position in southern West Virginia and was later promoted to the station’s Chief Meteorologist.

Further, Ross was employed at KHBS/KHOG in Arkansas. “Northwest Arkansas is much more wild and extreme than most people realize”, Ellet said. Ross experienced a catastrophic ice storm that coated the Ozark Mountains in 1-3″ of ice with no power for 3 weeks in spots. Additionally, the spring season frequently brought flooding and violent tornadoes. This made him win awards for his severe weather coverage and a special report on Arkansas black bears where he held a wild baby bear. Besides, Ross was employed at WBNS in Columbus, Ohio.

Ross developed a passion for weather at a tender age whereby he watched TV daily trying to compete with forecasters as he made his own predictions at the age of 5. “At the time I was just guessing and everybody laughed,” Ellet said. Additionally, Ross was brought up on the turnpike in northeast Indiana, outside the small town of Albion where he experienced lake-effect snow, blizzards, ice storms, tornadoes, floods, and heatwaves. 

 Further, Ross worked as a Weekend Meteorologist and weather reporter at 13abc weather team in 2012. Moreover, he remembers reporting on the Coast Guard’s ice-breaking mission during the near historic Great Lakes ice coverage in both 2014 and 2015. In addition, Ellet and photojournalist Todd Gaertner won an Emmy award for the story.

Ross loves to spend quality time outdoors with his wife, Sara, and their twin boys, Bryce and Simon. In addition, he also loves traveling, camping, hiking, astronomy, and photography. Besides, Ellet is also a runner and likes the trails and local races. Also, he has done 7 half marathons and will be working on his 4th marathon in 2020. Additionally, he is adventurous and is a fan of the Indiana Pacers and Colts, and loves adventure.
