He started his broadcasting career as a radio announcer in high school in his hometown of Victoria, Texas.
After working for ten years at radio stations from Victoria to Corpus Christi, Rusty started his career in television. He has subsequently led weather departments in Longview/Tyler, Lufkin/Nacogdoches, and Central Texas for almost thirty years! Rusty is one of the most well-known and well-liked figures in the area due to his community involvement. He has actively participated in the American Red Cross and United Way boards of directors.
Rusty has been the devoted leader of Project Tornado, a 16-county school weather safety program, for more than 25 years. He receives a lot of requests to talk to tens of thousands of students in local school systems. He is the area chairman for the “Toys For Tots” Christmas program run by the U.S. Marine Corps every year.
Rusty is quite involved in the Masonic fraternity. The Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite awarded him the 33rd degree in September 2017. Rusty was appointed the Grand Lodge of Texas’s District Deputy Grand Master in 2007. He serves as the Past Master of the Fidelis Masonic Lodge #1127 in Waco.
