Hashmi is an international broadcast journalist who has won many awards. He has reported some of the most significant news events from South Asia and the Middle East for almost 15 years. Sameer was given the position of BBC’s India Business Correspondent in 2012. Here, he covered business and economic stories from Asia’s second-largest economy for BBC News. He was as well regularly deployed in India and abroad to cover current affairs stories.
Sameer currently works as the BBC’s Middle East Business Correspondent. He covers geopolitics, current affairs, and business from the Gulf region. Sameer is also head of the Dubai BBC News bureau. In 2019, he set up the news bureau from its low level. Before this, he worked as the BBC’s India Business Correspondent and covered the South Asia region for more than a decade. As a multimedia journalist he reports, presents, and writes for all BBC News platforms including TV, radio, and online. He also offers long-format television programs on BBC World News.
Sameer has conducted successful interviews with prominent ministers, CEOs of fortune 500 companies, policy-makers, diplomats, central bankers, sports athletes & actors from around the world. As a presenter, he has presented many 30-minute programs on BBC News from India and the Middle East. He conceptualized and presented the award-winning series – India’s Game-Changers, which aired on BBC World News in 2018. Sameer started his career in 2008 at India’s leading business daily – the Economic Times as a reporter. In 2009, he was part of the pilot team that set up the Economic Times’ business daily news channel – ET Now.
