Brey schooled at The Ohio State University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She started her journalism career while still at The Ohio State University where she tackled behind-the-scenes work at WSYX-ABC 6/FOX 28 News and WSNY-FM in Columbus. She later joined E! News in Los Angeles and KLBK/KAMC in Lubbock, Texas, where she won several Associated Press awards for her anchoring and reporting. In addition, she was honored with the “Toledo 20 Under 40” Award in 2011 for her contributions to the community.

Sashem has been associated with some of Northwest Ohio’s biggest news stories which include providing live reports to CNN as the only TV reporter on-scene when the 2005 Neo-Nazi Riots exploded in the streets and donning a life jacket to cover devastating flooding in Findlay in 2007.
