Roberts was awarded the “Best TV Anchor” Award. This was for her dynamic personality and ability to engage viewers through storytelling and reporting by the Illinois Broadcasters Association. In addition, she was able to lead the team that won the 2021 Illinois Broadcasters Association Award. This was for “Best Multicultural Reach” and Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for “Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion”. She played a role as a co-executive producer and co-host of “Together We Rise” — a WMBD/WYZZ town hall discussion about race relations in Central Illinois.
Shelbey also was recognized in 2022, as one of Peoria Magazine’s “40 Leaders Under Forty”. This was for her community volunteer efforts and solution-based journalism work. Further, she remembers reporting on field reporting during Hurricane Matthew, Hurricane Irma, and the historic 2018 snowstorm in coastal Georgia. Shelbey loves to mentor and tutor Central Illinois youth and actively participates in community service projects as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
