Every day, she informs viewers of breaking news developments in real-time. She’s also been a part of many election nights throughout the years, including those when Gov. Rick Snyder and Jennifer Granholm, Michigan’s first female governor, were elected.
Susan was employed by WNEM TV5 in the Saginaw/Flint/Bay City/Midland area as the primary anchor of the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts before moving to Grand Rapids in October 1994. She had also previously worked at WEYI-TV25 in Flint, WWTV 9&10 in Cadillac, and WPDE-TV in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Susan, a self-described “Michigan girl,” enjoys being outside, hanging out on our stunning lakes and beaches, and fly fishing with her teenage son on nearby rivers. She also likes to watch sports, concerts, and golf. She was raised on Detroit’s east side.

With her own adopted dog named Charlie, Susan is an avid animal lover who also serves on the grant committee of the Bissell Pet Foundation, where she helps find permanent homes for animals in shelters. She was elected to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society executive board. She also donates to several charities and organizations in West Michigan, such as “I Understand,” a non-profit that raises awareness of mental health issues and works to prevent suicide.
Susan still hosts events and serves as an emcee for numerous organizations such as The Van Andel Institute’s Angels of Excellence initiative and Silent Observer. She also participates in station activities such as the yearly Water Drive for Flint people affected by lead-tainted water, Nexstar’s Day of Caring initiative, and the Salvation Army Angel Tree program, which donates toys for impoverished children. Susan is a member of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Michigan Emmy Chapter as well as the women’s career group Inforum. She has finished her training with the American Red Cross chapter in Grand Rapids on disaster preparedness.
Throughout her many years of community and television news service, Susan has won numerous awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters, the Associated Press, and the Michigan Emmy Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. She has also received an Emmy for Best News Anchor in Michigan for her work in the news. The esteemed Silver Circle Award was bestowed upon her in 2018. This accolade is among NATAS’s highest awards. It honors television professionals who have contributed notably to the television industry for at least 25 years.
