Virdee became a journalist at the age of 18, working as an intern for the Solihull Times in her hometown. She completed her journalism exam and switched to broadcast journalism while working for Central News in Birmingham. Virdee worked for the Sunday Mercury and the Birmingham Mail (later the Birmingham Evening Mail) before working for the BBC WM for 16 months. returned to Central News as a reporter, presenter, and producer before moving to the BBC’s Midlands Today program in April 2001, presenting nightly news before becoming the main presenter alongside Nick Owen a year later. Virdee has also worked as an assistant presenter for BBC Breakfast.
On 29 March 2012, Virdee left Midlands Today after announcing he could not sign a five-month contract to continue presenting the program. The BBC took Virdee off the air two days ahead of schedule after issuing a press release announcing her departure. She joined ITN in August 2016 as a correspondent for ITV Lunchtime News and the first anchor for ITV News London. On 25 May 2017, he presented short updates for 5 News and debated bulletins for ITV News.
