Travis Herzog Career
He joined the team in July 2006. Since then, the National Weather Association has named Travis “Broadcaster of the Year,” the Associated Press has named him “Best Weathercast” in Texas, and the Media Alliance of Houston has named him “Top On-Air Personality.” On Eyewitness News at 5, 6, and 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, Travis broadcasts live weather updates.
He has covered everything from hurricanes and tornadoes to ice storms and floods in southeast Texas. He wants to provide the general public with weather forecasts that are entertaining, instructive, and informative. Travis is a proponent of weather safety and frequently gives talks about weather safety at local schools to help students feel less anxious about storms and be able to make good decisions when the weather is bad.
You can rely on Travis to provide you with timely weather updates and potentially life-saving information when severe weather strikes. Travis has spent his entire life in Texas, so he is familiar with the climate. In fact, Hurricane Gilbert caused a tornado to pass by his childhood home in San Antonio, Texas, giving him the inspiration to become a meteorologist.
After that, he read every weather book he could find, developing a deep passion and profound respect for the environment. His classmates gave him the nickname “the weatherman,” which he preferred to “schoolboy.” Travis was raised as a Longhorn and eventually received permission from his parents to study the weather at Texas A&M University.
He met his wonderful wife in Aggieland and felt drawn to work as a broadcast meteorologist. Even if it meant enduring corny weatherman jokes for the rest of his life, it seemed like a no-brainer to choose a career that paid him to forecast and talk about the weather. Along the way, he received a number of awards and honors, including the prestigious Brown-Rudder Outstanding Student Award, which is given to a student who exemplifies the morals, character, and integrity of former Texas A&M University President Earl Rudder. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, the National Weather Association, the American Meteorological Society, and Phi Beta Kappa. He previously held the position of morning meteorologist at KBTX-TV in Bryan, Texas, where the Texas Associated Press twice named him one of the state’s best broadcast meteorologists.
