Conner started working for WXII in 2015, and just a few weeks into her time working for the Triad, she was in Charleston covering one of the most important stories in the country that year: the shooting massacre at Mother Emmanuel AME Church and the subsequent removal of the Confederate Flag from the grounds of the South Carolina Capitol in Columbia.
Additionally, Conner contributed significantly to the political coverage provided by WXII throughout the 2016 and 2020 election cycles. He reported on a number of local campaign stops made by presidential candidates and co-anchored the station’s coverage of election night in November. She told the unforgettable tale of Charles Bess to viewers in February of this year as part of the station’s “History and Hope” series.
He was a former Woolworths employee who was present at the beginning of the Greensboro sit-in movement. She spent about a week at the coast in 2018 as Hurricane Florence, a category four storm, dumped almost two feet of rain on Wilmington. She even got to see the magic of March Madness in North Carolina because she traveled out of state with the Duke Blue Devils during multiple men’s NCAA basketball tournaments.
She received the Winston-Salem Under 40 Leadership Award, was named one of the Triad’s 40 Under 40 Most Influential African Americans, served on the board of the Winston-Salem Urban League, and even taught ballet at the Positive Image Performing Arts Center in less than a decade in the Triad.
